Many people caution about the possession of things that it could make us materialistic and become a slave to it. They could be right and they could also be wrong. They could either be right or wrong because things are actually valued neutral. Value-neutral meant that things are neither good nor bad. The value of things depends on how it is used. Things can become good if it is used for a good reason/cause and it could also become bad if it is used for a bad reason or cause. Just like fire, it can be good when we can harness and control it as it provides us warmth and cooks our food but it can also burn our house and kill us if we use it wantonly. It is because we are going to want more and more until we cannot have enough. But if we treat things as mere tools to make our lives more comfortable, and to make us do more, and to remind us of special people and events, then things are good. In sum, things make our lives convenient. It also makes us do more and become a more productive member of society. The Meaning of Things in our Lives.
