The overall importance of seeking to maximize the level of “bang for the buck” with relation to where the de-icing systems were ultimately installed centered upon the fact that the sheer nature of the jobs which the UAV’s perform and support require that they remain aloft for extraordinarily long periods of time. As a function of this, i is necessary for these aircraft to be as light, ad as fuel efficient as possible. Likewise, seking to utilize CAD and CFD to determine what aspects of the aircraft lay greatest degree of risk with relation to ice and its effects was integral in modifying the aircraft while at the same time allowing it to continue its missions without being fundamentally affected.

De to the constraints of time, mney, wight, ad a host of other factors, te engineers that engaged with the refits were ultimately reliant upon the ability of the engineers to co-opt different approaches and seek to engage with non-traditional means in order to ensure that the needs of the given project were met. As a means this, oe can and should realize that the methods employed by the engineers, iclusive of CAD and CFD required them to approach the issue from different perspectives that were typically utilized only within various design stages.

Tis utilization of CAD and CFD to draw inference upon the root issues allowed for the team to target and develop a unique approach to the issue at hand without having to start from the very beginning and redesign the aircraft. Such an approach allowed for the team, a well as the shareholder, taxpayer, t realize a net savings over any other approach that could have been engaged with.

Yet, athough this represented a massive savings of both time and money, i is important for the reader/researcher to understand the nuanced approach that the issue was eventually and finally made aware to the engineers. As such, te issue would of course have first been reported to the shareholders/officers that oversaw the use of UAVs within the theaters of war (Hutchinson 2). Similarly, tis news would have made its way up chain of and eventually to the highest level of purview that exist within the US military.

In this way, aneedlessly high number of UAV crashes took place prior to the engineers being aware that there was an issue to deal with in the first place. Although they way in which they responded and the relative speed within which they did so was. ..
