Sociocultural Influences on Abnormal Behavior. Abnormal psychology delves on the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral issues. It can be defined as a behavior that is disturbing, socially unacceptable, maladaptive, upsetting, and often results in cognition problems. From socio-cultural context, abnormal behavior is learned and attained within a social perspective ranging from family set up the community, and cultural system. Therefore, cultural variables that are acquired via cognitions in the communal settings are believed to be crucial in generating abnormal behavior. Cultural factors under scrutiny include languages, social norms, arts, and various social structure. Each of the aforementioned factors has a significant function in the development of cognitive abilities.

Therefore, sociocultural factors are those issues that tend to derive the definition of persons in the social context and the way social setting influences learning skills of individuals in the community.
It is worth noting that learning begins from childhood. The child’s perception of the world around him or her is crucial for the development of cognitive processes. Hence, cognition achievement among the children varies with different culture and to an extent, it is specific to a particular society (Sue et al, 2015). As a result, such cognitive processes acquired during development processes may be unique to a given cultural setting. Having reviewed how parental to child learning affects the development of cognition in children, the paper, therefore delves on literature reviews from previously published journals to find out various social and cultural factors that may influence the development of abnormal behavior among individuals in a society.

Social and cultural context has a significant effect on a child’s cognition.
