Researchers in all disciplines differentiate basic and applied research. I social psychology, bsic research concentrates on important questions of individuals and their behaviours, felings, toughts and emotions (Fritsch and Trulson, 2013:28). Fr example, were does one’s personality originate from? Wat leads people to fall in love, uite with others for good causes, o despise their colleagues? Wat are the similarities and differences between male and female psychologies and what is the explanation for such differences and similarities? Bsic research in social psychology also explores questions concerning the influence on individual’s personality and how they interact with each other.

Tese types of questions target the very core of human nature. O the other hand, aplied research in social psychology focuses on smaller loci of human life, sch as law, cmmerce and health. B using the experiences of basic research and by looking for insights limited to specific areas, aplied research usually looks to improve the quality of our daily lives (Fiske, 2014:21). Scial psychologists play a role in areas like education, plitics, halth, te environment, cmmerce and law.

scial psychologists have created, iplemented and assessed programs to support employers in recruiting and training better personnel and to enable people with cancer to manage their conditions successfully. Scial psychology has also developed programs that increase the probability of people using public transportation to minimise pollution and minimise intergroup hostilities and prejudices in learning institutions and international diplomacy (Rubie-Davies, 2014:51). Scial psychology has also designed programs that make technology more user-friendly and contribute towards the overall advancement of society (Runcan and Rata, 2014:32). Oviously, te difference between basic applied is usually quite opaque.

Sholars can conduct basic research in applied settings and the results from each research enhance the other. A a matter of fact, i would be safe to say that most social psychologists hold basic and applied interests.
