An imperative social-cognitive capability that adds to the communicative interaction as well as to the development of language is the ability of joint attention. During the process of first language acquisition children of about ten months can engage other people and their parents actively while they at the same time focus on a thing of interest (Clark, 2009). Facilitating language acquisition means facilitating communication. Even though all normal children acquire language, there is a great difference in the rate of language acquisition.The children who acquire language very fast facilitate them to communicate with other people more than the children who acquire language at a slower rate (Clark, 2009). It is important to note that the rate of language acquisition is fast in individuals experiencing more one-to-one conversations with their parents or people training them in the case of second language acquisition. Therefore, the environment that is most supportive in acquisition of a language is the one with more verbal engagement with their parents or in people learning a language with their teachers. More engagement will also improve their language quality. It will in turn facilitate communication.Sometimes second language acquisition limits the communication of people.
