Is the Media Leading Non-smokers to Smoke in The United States. “This 1987 marketing document from the Philip Morris collection reveals an ad agency testing various themes about secondhand smoke on behalf of the Philip Morris Tobacco Company (PM). A major theme of the ads was that "the case isnt proven" that secondhand tobacco smoke harms nonsmokers, ironically the same theme that the tobacco industry used for years to reassure smokers about primary smoking and keep them smoking” (Secondary Smoke Advertisements) Thus tobacco ads always persuade people to smoke again and again citing false interpretations and judgments. It is foolishness to believe that tobacco companies spending millions of dollars to control the smoking habits of people. It is a contradiction that the same advertisement contains both the themes;

argument in favor and against smoking. In fact, tobacco companies and the governments are cheating the public by displaying such ads. If the government really wants a control over the public smoking habits, then they should prohibit tobacco usages rather than putting slogans on advertising materials against it.Studies pertaining to nonsmokers and their introduction to tobacco advertisement reveal that nonsmoker adolescents who were more familiar with or responsive to tobacco advertisement had the potential to become smokers afterwards. Recent studies have revealed that cigarette companies are still promoting advertisements that have a greater influence on young people in contrast to anti-smoking announcements. According to the Federal Trade Commission cigarette manufacturing companies spend approximately $1.06 billion for the promotion of cigarettes. A large amount of this money is spent at the retail store level targeting youngsters and teenagers. (How Advertising Impacts Smoking?We are living in a world filled with stress. In most of the segments of our social life is not free from necessary or unnecessary tensions. In order to relax or to make the mind free from the agitating thoughts, people often have a tendency to get addicted to something and smoking is the simplest form of relaxation techniques most of the people adopt. The heavy expenditure on tobacco ads by the tobacco companies encourages people to use their products. Most of the governments have banned ads without the warning signals; but such warnings will never reach the non-smokers or smokers because of the least importance such.
