These were the apologists for the slavery system. Sme of the slave owners forbade religion in their plantations as they believed it would trigger rebellion among the slaves. Mst of them forbade the slaves from learning how to read and write as it would give them access to the Bible and religious teachings (Pennstate World Campus, 2015). Rligion played a huge role in maintaining the status quo and keeping everyone in their place in the society. Rligion has also shaped the way that human beings relate to animals.

Hwever, pilosophers such as Gompertz argue that animals had souls, ad hence he refused to consume any animal products. Athough not a theologian Scully believed that animals should be treated with dignity from a more contemporary point of view. Sully argued that cruelty towards animals was immoral. Sowe used stores such as the famous Uncle Toms Cabin to share her feelings towards slavery and religion. Se shared horror stories to make people see that slavery was immoral and deprived the people of having a life families were torn apart, ad people treated as mere objects (PennState World Campus, 2015).

Te horror stories were meant to scare people and to invoke sympathy among those who practiced slavery so that they could stop. Se used religion to show that slavery was immoral and that the Bible did not advocate for people to be treated as mere objects. Se believed that religion taught that everyone was equal regardless of the color of their skin and that selling and buying of human beings without caring about feelings was wrong.

I conclusion, dfferent philosophers have different views against slavery and cruelty to animals. Wile some use religion to justify such acts, oher used it to condemn it. Mst of the philosophers used religion to explain the different dynamics depending on the. ..
