However, over the years the success of prefabricated housing has been questioned over the factors like quality, social status. Add to that the prefab housing business has been mottled due to the social reputation factor as well failure of certain prefab projects. However, in the recent few years the business saw a growth due to the government support. After the world war prefabrication was initiated in the UK. The programs were backed by the government to solve the problem of homelessness. However, the Government never really was committed to the projects as it was looked upon as a temporary solution only. Also there was a serious concern regarding quality of the houses among the public. Things did not help as there were a few major failures related to the prefab housing projects like the 1968 Ronan Pint Residential tower that witnessed major collapses. In the late 90’s however, the prefab housing business saw major shift as the government planned to build over 3 million homes by 2020. The shortage of housing stocks and affordability crisis were the two major drives. Prefabrication housing has now become a serious construction agenda. However, human perception towards the prefab housing still continues to be major obstacle (Davies, 2005, p.Prefabricated Housing has had its shares of ups and downs in the UK. There is strong interest among some government and industry groups. However, there are several barriers to success. Some of the factors affecting the viability of the fabricated housing in the UK are listed below:The financial provision for the housing business is quite low, main due to the economic down turn. But the government is looking to provide financial support as it expects major outputs from the market. Therefore prefabrication can be viewed as a cost effective way to meet the demand.
