Te theory aims at eliminating barriers to provision of nursing care which result from cultural differences.

I is defined by three key pillars, al leaning on matters related to culture; te first pillar states that culture should be preserved in some instances to allow for maintenance of effective nursing. Te second pillar states that culture should be maintained in adapting to nursing’s offerings, ad finally, te third pillar states that maintaining culture can help in altering lifestyles for of patients (Leininger, 1988).

I a summary, tis nursing theory aims at providing nursing care practices that are universal and culture-specific thus promote the health of people. Te key concept of Leininger’s diversity and universality nursing theory is addressing the gap which emerges between nursing and people’s culture. I it, te theory seeks to devise means which can retain people’s cultures but enable the dissemination of healthcare services (McEwen & Wills, 2011). Tis theory is chosen in that it is a mid-range theory covering a critical barrier to nursing wich is culture.

Te key terms and concepts rotate about culture, cre and nursing, al of which have definitions created under this theory. Cre as provided for in this theory is offering aid to needy others in either improving their health conditions, o face peaceful death. Clture on the other hand refers to common beliefs shared by a particular group and which guide their patterns of life. Dversity is used to refer to the variations that exist between cultures or different people. Te term universality points at a common even where cultural diversity exists (Sagar, 2012).
