With proper staffing, training, individual and organizational cognition strategies can be used together to socialize newcomers and manage the cognitive uncertainties experienced by new comers.Socialization is a societal process that occurs within and without the boundaries of an organization. Bakker (2013, pp. 214) writes that the socialization of a newcomer is dependent upon how they are socialized to transit from one role to another. As such, the study provides critical lessons on the socialization process for newcomers within the larger society.The question as to whether organizations should focus more on the individual or on the larger organization in strategizing ways of dealing with cognitive strategies has extensively been covered in various literature. For example Rahim (2009, pp. 184) writes that the human cognitive system is influenced by external factors, such as uncertainty. However, the study is the first to put individual cognition in the context of the general theory of cognition.The appropriateness of the study lies in the fact that in provides more insight into the different strategies employed by organizations in the socialization process aimed at reducing uncertainty for newcomers. According to Saks & Ashforth (1997, pp. 236), newcomers experience increased uncertainty during the entry process, thus making it important to reduce this uncertainty in order to create a conducive work environment.In as much as the ethnography research method yielded the desired results from the study, there are other ways the researcher would have included in conducting the research. For instance, the researcher could have use the descriptive research as an approach to examine the bankers in the work stations. According to Williams (2007, pp. 67), descriptive research uses observational methods to collect data on subjects in their current states, in order to identify particular phenomena. Wanberg (2012, pp. 18) is also of the opinion that quantitative methods such as sampling can provide more insight into the cognitive processes of newcomers at their workplace.3The effect of the study results in answering the questionThe study results showed that whether an organization uses strategies aimed at reducing or amplifying cognitive uncertainties, the newcomers tend to achieve their set objectives.
