Management: What is Emotional Intelligence. In being a better manager is that by having mastered a good degree of control over my own emotions, I can then be in a position to understand others, help others, and finally bring out the highest potential in other individuals as well as myself.Another element of management is feedback. Feedback can be defined as the process of presenting to others your observations of their work; how they performed their work along with what they accomplished. This information would be then passed on to the individual so they can improve their performance. Feedback is necessary for managers to convey to employees so they feel part of a progressive company. Without feedback, employees could feel out of touch with their work, or not know what they should be focusing their attention on for improving the quality of their work.

Also, employees do like to be recognized and appreciated for their work that is done well. A small example of this is mentioning to an employee performing a job duty that he or she does correctly with one minor exception. It would be best to first provide praise for an overall job well done, along with some constructive feedback on the item that needs further development. By framing the feedback correctly, the employee will walk away knowing they are appreciated, yet will take steps to ensure the one item is properly corrected.Positive reinforcement is a related topic to this. Positive reinforcement might be best contrasted with what it is not. What is it not would be belittling employees or only giving feedback when things go wrong. Instead, the idea with positive reinforcement is to encourage positive attitudes and outcomes by means of acknowledging when things go right and thanking the employee for good outcomes or results. A person can most effectively use positive reinforcement by doing it frequently and not only on special occasions. Listening is an important skill in this area along with regular acknowledgement of good ideas.Conflict management is another area that does frequently occur. The most critical skill that a manager can have in dealing with conflict management is a focus on the problem itself and not the individuals. The goal should be to solve the problem and not engage in provoking others. As mentioned earlier with emotional intelligence, it is important to have our own emotions in check and not let emotions control us. Most managers deal with conflict because of an overall poor communication structure. Management: What is Emotional Intelligence.
