Leonardo painted a little angel who was holding Jesus' housecoat in a way that was as far as this superior to his master's that Verrocchio places down his brush and never painted over again. This is almost certainly an overstatement. On close inspection, the painting discloses a lot that has been painted or stroked over the tempera applying the innovative procedure of oil paint. The scenery, the rocks that can be seen throughout the brown mountain flow and a big deal of the sketch that Jesus stands as a by the hand of Leonardo. In 1472, at the age of twenty, Leonardo got educated at a master level in the Guild of St Luke, the federation of artists and doctors of medicine, however even after his father set him up in his individual workshop; his affection to Verrocchio was so much that he sustained to work together with him. However, Leonardo da Vinci started painting the Mona Lisa in 1503.

He is considered to have sustained his work on it for at least 3 years after he went towards France to have completed it soon before he died in 1519.

Leonardo took the painting of Mona Lisa from Italy to France in 1516 when King Francois I requested him to work at the Clos Luce next to the king's fortress in Amboise. The King purchased the painting for 4,000 ecus and reserved it at Fontainebleau, where it stayed until given to Louis XIV. Louis XIV stirred the painting to the castle of Versailles. Later than the French revolt, it was placed to the Louver. Napoleon, I had it moved his bedroom in the Toiletries fortress; after some time it went back to the Louver.

Throughout the Franco-Prussian War, it was placed from the Louver to a secret place somewhere in France. The painting is well-known, especially, for the indefinable smile on the woman’ s face, its strange feature brought about possibly by the fact that the artist has delicately shaded the curves of the mouth and eyes so that the precise character of the smile cannot be resolute. The indistinct superiority for which the effort is famous is known the “ sfumato” or in other words, Leonardo’ s smoke.
