Visconti together with the Giuseppe Tomasi all related to the movie’s thematic illustration of the change in the Italian society. Bth were born in Italian and Sicilian aristocrat families, ad they identified with the changes that resulted from the unification of the Italian states (Landy 152). Te movie captures the ascension of the Italian middle class and the decent of the Italian aristocracy. Vsconti aptly captures the uprooting of the Italian aristocracy due to the resurgence movement in the country. Lchino Visconti is famous for his two historical on the Risorgimento era of Italian history; Snso and the Leopard.

I all English taste, te Leopard is not as melodramatic as expected. Te change in social status of the aristocrats ought to have come with a little bit more drama, bt the Prince of Salina downplays this. Te director, hwever, cmbines several intellectual influences into the Leopard. Tese intellectual influences brought the film its fame and recognition in the 1963 Cannes Film Festival where Luchino won the Palme d’Or category. Te cameraman, Guseppe Rotunno, uilizes anamorphic cinematography to the surroundings of Sicily.

Tis anamorphic cinematography vividly captures the landscape and brings reality to the audience with its lingering effect. Ech scene is filled with unforeseen drama of upcoming scenes. Fr example, te mournful march of the hundreds of soldiers and the rising of smoke in neighboring estates. N scene is ever tranquil in this Visconti masterpiece; laving the audience with a persistently beautiful yet dramatic film. Te ballroom sequence at the end of the movie illustrates the prowess of Visconti as a director (Landi 156). Tis is shot, t say the least; te scene captures the Prince’s melancholic face and posture.

Hs decisions during the movie hit him during this scene. H realizes that the Italian aristocratic tradition of crossbreeding results in the fall their class. Cossbreeding, acording to him, des not result into purified and noble class. Te practice leads to slovenly and ignoble children characterized by his daughter Concetta. Dring his dance with Angelica, hr angelic beauty quells the Prince’s mind. Hs face during this scene is serene as he finds solace Angelica’s beauty.
