They look for valuable materials from the waste products to use as their shelter. Tese children grow together as brothers, potecting each other from harm and attacks by other gangs. Nwton (2008) defined a prison gang as an organization, wich operates within the prison system as self –perpetuating criminally oriented entity, cnsisting of a selected group of inmates who have established an organized chain of command and are governed by an established code of conduct. Tey have their own symbols, tttoos and different kind of graffiti which they use communication.

Gngs are in prisons are common and are formed to protect the inmates from attack by the old members. Wen a new inmate is brought to prison, h or she has to find a gang to join to avoid attacks by cruel people. Te gangs provide a source of identity to the inmates and they are able to have people to have their back when there is trouble in the prison. Te gangs are also dangerous since they can make an inmate get in trouble with the authority their gang kills innocent individuals.

Mys and Winfree (2009) stated that the gangs in the United States originated from New York City, Cicago, ad the surrounding vicinities. Te gangs live in different territories and control all the criminal activities that take place in their territory. Tere is tough competition among the gangs and when a member disobeys the rules, h or she is beaten or even murdered. Mschi et al (2009) stated that many of the gangs also originated from prison in response to geographic, ehnic, ieological influences and they grew, tey evolved to include both institutional and community components.

Te gangs in prison are formed according to the background the individuals are socialized. Te black and white people could form their own gangs since they could identify themselves with their unique colors, ohers are recruited into gangs depending with the countries they come from, ad others just join the gangs that they find easy to understand and socialize. Tere are different types of gangs in prison, tose that follow the rules and regulations of the prisons, ad that disrupt the peace of other inmates and are violent all the time.
