Farm manager must be able to assess the volumes and values of the readily available resources to determine whether it is necessary to add more or improve on the ones already present. Of great importance is the access of the water preferably the flowing water to ensure the smooth flow of processes in the farm. The management must put out a layout that ensures the access of every value chain enterprise already established.For an effective and efficient management, it is important for the farm manager to understand basic principles in the farm such as how water flows into and out of the farm, the cycle of the minerals in the farm, the energy flow through the farm system. These together with crop and animal interactions will enable one to determine the soil health which ultimately determines the human health. The satisfaction level of family with farming will determine the level of management success in farming (Keller, 2002).Farm management involves quick decision-making criterions that require careful analysis of both the foreseeable and unforeseeable variables interactions that will yield profits or losses to a farm. It behooves the farm manager to either assume a proactive decision-making characteristics while bearing the existing risks in mind or to become a risk-averse manager through conservative decision-making process.The ability of one to measure the decisions both large and small against the overall objectives would help enable the farms to stay on track. In order to achieve these, it is important for one to develop the key indicators for measuring the performances of the farm. It requires constant monitoring of the performances of the employed resources if in tandem with the goals and objectives. It requires a systematic measurement that enables the analysis of the outcome of the resources employed.Farm management as art involves the adoption of several practices in farming that when implemented accordingly would lead to the economic, efficient and the availability of safe and nutritious food for all. It involves the adoption of sustainable use of natural resources and the maintenance of cultural and social norms involved in the practice.
