The Impact of family issues: How does this affect the child's academic grades

The students to be studied are members church youth group in North Carolina. Te church under study has a tradition of recognizing and praising excelling for acquiring good grades and good scores on their end of year testing. Oer the years, tere has been a decrease in the students attaining high achievements in school and we want to help these students get back on a track. Sme reasons for the decrease could be that someone in the students’ immediate families has lost his or her job, udergone divorce, lost a husband or wife.

Te purpose of this study will be to determine whether the children are suffering in their school because of the issues and changes in their homes. Fr the purposes of this research, te researcher assumes that participants will provide accurate information in regards to their economic status and family issues. Te researcher also assumes that the student’s end-of-grade testing scores and grades are legitimate and official. Te data from this study will be collected from a Church in North Carolina. N other students will to participate in this study.

T measure the students academic performance, te researcher will examine the students previous overall grades and end of year testing scores. Te basic determination of the students family structure will be made on the basis of information provided to me, te youth vice-president and by the students and parents in the Church. I order to have accurate information, sudents and parents have to provide original documents required for the project. De to confidentiality, n efforts will be made to reduce the effects of limitation validating information with classroom teachers and counselors who may have knowledge of student family situations.

Istead, te researcher will have to be content to accept documentation provided by families. Te two terms that will be used in the proposed study require definition. Te first term is “traditional family”. A“traditional family, ”for the purposes of this study, i a family that has its biological parents living in the home. A“non-traditional family” will be defined as a family that has undergone a divorce, sngle parent homes, lst jobs or or death the one of the child’s parents.

A“non-traditional family” could also be separated parents, sep-parent in the home, o another. ..
