How Terrorism Is Reported to Instill Fear. Terrorism is commonly defined as the systematic use or threat to use violence to intimidate a government to heed to your demands. This affects political, ideological or religious changes. There have been numerous attempts and other successful terrorist acts of terrorism in the United States and other parts of the world. Some acts date as back as 1800 where a pro-slavery mob killed Elijah P. Lovejoy who was an abolitionist. From then on acts of terrorism have been on an upward trend ever since.
The key focus of this article is to find out how terrorism has been reported in newspapers, television, radio and other communication avenues. Has there been any bias in reporting? Have the reporters hidden some information?

Is it possible that the media has contributed to this rampant increase in terrorist acts? All this information will be answered through a review of an article published by the Washington post on their website. Washington Post is one of the leading media houses in the world, providing news online and both in print.
The article is entitled, “How terrorism in the West compares to terrorism everywhere else.” Before we even proceed, the headline is already led by biases. The headline puts the West against other regions in the world. This means that the article is trying to portray West, as a victim of terrorism and not a participant of the same. Every nation in the world is a victim of terrorism. Comparing one region to the other is putting the regions against each other which create a breeding ground for terrorists.
The article provides statistics that there have been 658 deaths in Europe and Americas since 2008 that have been non-militant related. There have also been 28,031 non-militant related deaths in the rest of the world. The term the rest of the world is not only provoking but also demeaning to the other regions of the world.
