Interests and Goals for Doctoral Studies

The Indiana University of Pennsylvania draws my attention since it provides the course that best suits me. My plan to complete my Ph. D. program in English Composition and TESOL is three staged. First, I would make a quick psychological reorientation. This involves transforming my role to that of a teacher from that of a student. This is essential since it will enable me to focus on better ways of conveying English knowledge. Secondly, I will strive to learn the current methodologies and theories of English language teaching. I will this by researching on the various schools of thoughts.

After laying theoretical backgrounds for my study, I will seek opportunities and openings to participate in various seminars, workshops, conferences, and lectures related to TESOL within and off campus. I will also participate in internship programs to perfect my English. This is because teaching English is an art that must be practiced. Additionally, I will use the internship as a yardstick to evaluate my weaknesses and strengths in teaching English. I will pay attention to the problems facing by my in their teaching experiences.

Explicitly, I will pay distinct attention to culture-related problems. My dissertation paper will focus on the cultural barriers affecting the teaching of English. This is because the cultural barrier is one of the biggest challenges affecting English teaching in many countries all over the world. My objective after successfully finishing the TESOL program is to return to my state and seek a teaching position in the English Department of one of the leading universities. This will enable me to apply everything I will have learned in TESOL program.

I will also join academic associations that concern themselves with teaching English. I will guide my teaching with relevant TESOL principles in order to make the practice effective and successful. My eventual career objective for studying TESOL is to be a specialist in the field of teaching English teaching.
