In this case, pople possess an innate comprehension of things being equal even when in real experiences; tose things can never be equal. Pople have the ability to grasp and make some meaning from this understanding even when they have never had a real encounter with such experiences. Te grasping of these things therefore, cmes from the recollections of the immortal knowledge people had before their time of birth. I this argument, te soul mast have been living at a certain point before the birth of an individual, wich implies that the life of the soul goes beyond that f the human body, ad hence its immortality.

T consolidate his argument about immortality of the soul, Scrates has also based his analysis on the argument analysis of the concept of affinity. I this point of view, i is easy to make a clear distinction between things that are immortal, ivisible and immaterial from those which are visible, prishable and material. Te soul and the body belong to two different categories, wth the soul being of the former, wile body belonging to the latter.

I this case, te soul is purely immortal and takes various forms. Asoul, wich is not detached properly from its body easily, bcomes a ghost, wich later tends to have a longing to return to its flesh (Irvine 41). Smmias raises an objection to Socrates’ argument, sggesting that the human soul can sometimes be invisible and immaterial, sme as the act of tuning an instrument. I this case, te tuning of a particular instrument can only take place if the instrument happens to be existence as well.

I his response to Simmias, Scrates explains that Simmias’ arguments are purely conflicting with the of recollection. Te soul can never in any way be compared to the attunement that happens on the instrument, tis is because; bfore the body existed, te soul was already living. Te soul is that which animates us; i this case, w are humans, ad alive just because a soul exists in us. Acording to this perspective, te soul is perfectly associated with a certain kind of life. I is to realize that the soul is not associated to its opposite in anyway – death (Irvine 39).
