In addition, the arrival of Germanic migration in Rome did not precipitate the beginning of a Dark Age as what French and Italian historians claimed (Halsall Ch. 2) but rather a replacement of a decadent civilization with a more virle, martial and Nordic one (Halsall Ch.This confliciting interpretation and account of the cause of Germanic migration only demonstrates that „this migratory movement was a multilayered process. and has to be understood in relation to the social and economic development of the preceding centuries“ (Burmeister 553). Such, to fully understand the Anglo Saxon settlements necessitates the understanding of the processes that led to it.Since, the Germanic tribe and the Romans had always clashed. The Romans even the assigned the name Germanic to all barbarian tribes. The Germanic tribe, just like any other earlier tribes in history is led by a chieftain known for its war prowess and its societal structure is highly mobile (anon).The first clash between the Germanic tribes and the Romans can be traced back at around 370 A. when the Huns went west out of Central Asia where they encountered the Visigoths and Ostrogoths. This encounter initiated the succeeding years of continuous invasion and warfare between the Romans and Germanic tribes until the downfall of the Roman-controlled frontiers History World(b)).In the 5th century, the massive Völkerwanderung or human migration took place as Rome was nearing its collapse. This migration took place in different directions that went from present day England, Scandinavia to as far as Africa, Continental Europe and the Mediterranean. These Völkerwanderung inevitably clashed with other existing tribal occupants in their search for lands and what ensued was years of wars for land. Ultimately, these conflicts made more lands to be occupied as what cannot be had by taking had to be looked for. Finally, when all those wars for land ebbed, the Völkerwanderung finally settled and begun the building of concrete homes and communities. These communities had still to be under a strong leader because settlement did not mean the cessation of expansionary tendencies. As in the case in the earlier days of Germanic migration, a tribe or community has to protect itself from invaders because a defeat from a conquering tribe would mean subjugation if not the dissolution of the tribe to the conquering tribes.If there is any migration in the Arab
