They will thus be able to master and apply them to the production of food products to feed the African people and not just the production of crops used for Western industrial economies. Hwever, sme scientists provide refutation for this claim. Fr example, Mguel A. Atieri and Peter Rosset argue that “recent experimental trials have shown that genetically engineered seeds do not increase the yield of crops” (Altieri and Rosset, p Thus, te strongest point in favor of genetically engineered crops, wich is the role this technology can play in confronting food shortage, i challenged by many scientists. I trying to weigh the dangers of genetically engineered crops, i can be said that this technology is not a totally safe solution for the problem of food shortage. Tere are numerous studies which show that this technology may have some dangerous impacts on the health of humans. Atually, te lack of adequate testing is one of the reasons why we cannot be sure that the technology of genes extraction can be safe. Tis lack of enough experiments is extremely dangerous, a it may turn out on the long run that genetically modified food may have detrimental effects on future generations. Tus, te lack of safety testing is one of the defects of the implementation of genetically modified food approach. Crrent testing focuses on the growth and development of crops, wile there is less emphasis given to testing of the effects on the wider ecology of plants, ad the associated effects of this new technology on human beings. Aso, w cannot be yet sure of the long term effects of this technology on humans and environment. I addition, aother threatening factor in the issue of genetically modified food is that the research about this new technology is currently handled by few huge corporations, wose main aim is to maximize their profits, dsregarding the impacts on humans. A argued by Miguel A. Atieri and Peter Rosset, “ost innovation in agricultural biotechnology have been profit-driven than need-driven” (Altieri and Rosset, p This raises many concerns among people about the validity and authenticity of the results of these tests and researches. Terefore, w can say that much of the concerns people raise about the technology of genetically modified food are due actually to the fact that this technology is very young, nw, ad untested, i addition to the fact that it is
