The art of using images to convey a message has been used for many years. This paper will focus on understanding the application of artifacts in communicating to the audience regarding a particular interest. As noted by Evans and Thomas (2012) in most cases, people tend to view images differently depending on the one’s mood, how the image appears, what the message seems to convey among other factors that may influence one’s judgment. It is through the understanding of diverse people that different assumptions and perceptions are created regarding something. In order to understand how pictures are used in life to convey messages, this paper will purpose to provide a rhetoric criticism of wollthorn and hawkridge products which are used by men as sprays and deodorants to prevent body odor that may be caused by different factors.

The manufactures of these products have adopted a strategy that focuses on attracting men into believing that applying such deodorants would help them appear superior and manlier than others in the society. The artifact is presented with a picture of a masculine man who seems to feel aggressive and attractive. This is created as an advertising tool that attracts other men to go for that product which makes them demigods in the society. The artifact analyzed in this paper was chosen due to its wide application across the globe and the simplicity it provides thus enabling easy understanding of the concept. In that regard, this paper will involve rhetoric analysis of the artifact as mentioned above.

An artifact can be understood as an object or image that is created by a person to portray a certain agenda. This means that an artifact has a broad definition and could include representation of cultural beliefs, interest, a memory or even an advertisement by a company. This paper is focusing on a deodorant artifact that is used to advertise products and attract people into perceiving themselves different when using such products.
