UAE Ecological Footprint. Firstly, if we were to continue with our current consumption habits, the United Arab Emirate would soon deplete its available biologically productive space thereby leading to the scarcity of natural resources. Conflicts may also erupt when resources become scarce. Additionally, failure to change our contemporary unsustainable energy consumption and materialism will result in a significant threat to the various ecological habitats not only in the country but also in the other parts of the world where high amounts of goods and natural resources are currently being imported from. For example, the current high demand for timber in the United Arab Emirates may drive illegal logging in other parts of the world thereby leading to the depletion of forests and destruction of natural habitats.

Choosing to eat imported foot negatively affect our planet due to its higher ecological footprint. This is particularly because it takes more energy to ship and transport the imported foods into the country thereby resulting in more carbon footprint as compared to eating the locally produced food.There are a diverse number of habits and lifestyle changes that I can adopt to reduce my ecological footprint. Firstly, one of the effective ways through which I can change my ecological footprint is to reduce my overall carbon emissions by making better travel choices, buying renewable energy and being energy efficient such as switching the bulbs off when they are not in use. This is important because our current carbon footprint accounts for more than a half of out overall ecological footprint.Another habit I can adopt to reduce my ecological footprint is to reduce, reuse and recycle both at work and at home. This will enable me to save water and paper among other resources. Lastly, I would adopt a more sustainable consumption habit by rejecting goods or food products that are produced in an unsustainable manner. For example, I can choose energy efficient electronics and appliances when shopping.The government of the United Arab Emirates has undertaken several initiatives and measures to understand and effectively manage the country’s current ecological impact. For example, as a response to the 2006 ranking of the United Arab Emirates as the country with the world’s highest ecological footprint, the government launched the Al Basma Al Beeiyah Initiative which has.
