The film depicts a certain part of the Indian culture and many other cultures as well. Scio-economic status and class is a hurdle in the growth of rich culture which is present in almost every society and it has become very challenging to control2. Te film also shows this stereotyping against a certain group of people belonging to slums. Snce the film is shot in the Indian setting with the story of a young Indian boy, te cultural language Hindi was sure to be used. Te first part film includes an orphan who speaks Hindi as it is his cultural language.

Hwever, eentually as he grows up, smehow he starts speaking Standard English. Te film shows that automatically the boy has learnt English and uses an accent which only a boy who has been raised in Britain can use. Lnguage is an essential element of culture which plays a vital role in developing the characters and roles of the people involved. Tis film rather makes it confusing for both, te Indian audience as well as the Western does not portray the essence of cultural language and what effects language can have on people.

Mny critiques criticized the use of English in a British accent as it did not match with the other elements of the slum culture of India3. Te essentialist view on culture focuses on a more one sided theory. I is the theory in which culture is limited to where an individual is from and what language he speaks. Tey say that an individual cannot be a part of more than a single and Mreover, fr essentialists, a individual develops his behaviors and overall character according to their culture.

Eery person from the same culture will have the same personality specified by the elements of that culture. Tis view is criticized as every individual has a different way of doing things which is not tied up by their culture. Pople in the same culture can be different and can have their own interests and they would not necessarily agree with everything part of their culture4. Tis opposing view is non-essentialism. I view, acertain can be a part of more than one culture and have a personality which is determined by the values of these cultures.

Te combination of cultures make a person and they can adopt different values and characteristic from each culture with a certain one being dominant than the others5. Tus, tis non-essentialist view tends to focus on the fact that people can have. ..
