This is observed until the specimen attains the failure position. The measure of elasticity as one of the physical characteristics of the material determines whether the material will regain its original shape or will experience permanent deformation. The observation is meant to establish the proportional limit. This is the highest limit of stress, which the specimen material can produce and withstand while maintaining its position in the best-fit line of proportionality formed by plotting stress against the strain on the material. Elasticity test further measures the stiffness as well as ductility of the specimen materials. Stiffness is determined by the ability of the material to undergo permanent deformation when a load is applied on it. On the other hand, ductility is measured by how the material is capable of go through substantial deformation (bends and twists) before finally experiencing rupture.The materials, which were required as specimens for this lab test, are aluminum and steel. The different tests in the experiment were elasticity properties such as tensile test. This meant that each of the specimen materials was is subjected to a load that is uniformly spread and increases gradually until the attainment of failure. The lab test used 0.5 inches by diameter of aluminum and steel.At the Opposite ends of each elastic metal specimen, there was a load tied to each end pulling down the material and increasing its length. The testing arrangement was extended the specimen materials in the same direction as the uniformly applied force. The measurement of the length and the outwards diameters of the specimen materials were done at two points using the outside calipers. The findings were that the lengths changed while the cross sectional area of each of the specimens remained the same. The uniform load hanged at the lower end of the materials uniformly spread the stress and the load at an angle of 90 degrees to the direction to which the load moves. The stress and the strain in each of the experiments were noted down, with an emphasis on the extensions of the materials under load. The last diameter to be measured was at that of the materials after failure. Another fundamental measurement to be taken was the distance from one gage mark to another.
