Manuel’s father insists on teaching him ‘manners’ that he should practice should they succeed in their mission of crossing the border and going to the United States, te promised land according to the father. Tis kind of a fatherly approach brings confusion to Manuel’s life and he is not sure of what to do a similar case experienced by Willie but on a different scale. Te farther wants the son to avoid any kind of embarrassment that is usually experienced by other Latinos who cross the border without interaction skills.

Wllie and Manuel are suffering from mistakes that are not their own making. Tere are forced into a situation where they have to make hard decisions at their tender age. Wllie’s case is a more difficult compared to Manuel’s issue because she is lacking people to guide her. O the other hand, Mnuel has his father as the guide and most children tend to follow what their parents tell them hence he has no choice but learn basic skills of how to interact with other people once the border.

Teir stories is similar in that there are both young, nt sure of what they want in life and not sure of who to guide them best. Tey different in the sense that one has parents the other parents are missing and their stories are told in totally different situations. Te two stories bring about different social issues that need to be addressed on a serious note both by the government and the parents and the society at large. Fr instance, hw is it possible that was to prostitution at a tender age and the sister saw it ok to do so without considering later implications?

Se is now dead and little Willie is now exposed to the railroad men who were clients to her sister. Tis is a moral decay in the society that needs to be tackled cumulatively by both the government of the day and the society at large. Sientist’s show that the environments which children are brought up significantly contribute to brain development and this one which Willie was exposed is a environment.

Te story of Manuel is also heartbreaking; te father is ruining the brain development of his son by feeding him with negative thoughts. Hw on earth is Manuel supposed to live with the information that he was born on the wrong country? Prents should play the most important role in ensuring that their children get the best and are exposed to the best environment for their growth. Te father. ..
