Marxism and North Korea. This means that they have no model of government upon which they could compare their own.The political power of the totalitarian regime of North Korea also extends to how they conduct congresses, where, just like Stalinist USSR, they would “exalt violence” and use “grossly abusive language” (Foster-Carter). Moreover, there is a sort of hereditary succession in the political leadership of North Korea, with Kim Il-Sung passing on his position and power to Kim Jong-Il and now to the latter’s son (Foster-Carter). Vulgarity and hereditary monarchy are never a part of the original Marxist ideology.North Korea’s vulgarity even translates itself as acts of terrorism on the international scene. Without any reference to particular Marxist principles, North Korea has been sponsoring several acts of terrorism like providing support to the Japanese Communist League-Red Army, or JRA.

This organization was mainly responsible for the hijacking of the Japan Airlines flight to North Korea in 1970 (“Democratic People’s”). Moreover, North Korea is believe to have imported armaments to Iran and Syria, and helped in the proliferation of nuclear missiles in Myanmar, Syria and Iran, using false description and labels of containers as well as falsification of shipment information (Varner). Aside from this, North Korea was also involved in abductions of foreign citizens with 12 cases that remain unsolved until now (“Democratic People’s”). Lastly, North Korea is known to have engaged in developing a nuclear arsenal and one with which they do not want the United States to interfere (“National Security Strategy”). These acts of crime and terrorism clearly do not belong to the ideal Marxist philosophy.Nevertheless, North Korea’s political principle known as “Juche” – a term coined by Kim Il-Sung and one which roughly means “self-reliance” – seeks to promote “complete equality, independence, mutual respect, noninterference in each other’s affairs, and mutual benefit” (Pinkston). These virtues somehow reflect the principle of equality in the basic Marxist ideology. 26 Feb 2012. “Kim East Asia Forum. 26 Feb. Marxism and North Korea.
