His comments on “ self-deportation” on the issue of immigration were not a practical solution to the mind-boggling problem that deeply impacted the economy of the country from all ends. He was not popular at public relations and his highhandedness and dismissive attitude towards his campaign managers worked to his disadvantage. He was adamant about his stand and was not amenable to receive the suggestions from his own men. According to Balz, if Obama was running a better race it was not due to the favorable circumstances, but the poor skills of the Romney camp and his vice presidential nominee Ryan with whom he had many unsorted issues.

The American people certainly did not indecision-makers at the top position but decision-makers to chisel the destiny of the country. Neither Romney nor Obama was able to get the swing advantage, as they could not put forth before the public any challenging issue for which they had the answer. The public as such had no option but to make a decision out of the elements of their indecision as they could nothing in the campaign speeches of both the presidential candidates to lift their spirits, according to the author.

Romney had another distinct disadvantage to his credit and that was the infighting spectacle of the Republicans in the primaries. The big show came down to a squabble between the two groups for the choice of the presidential candidate. The author also gives the account of the first debate of Obama with Romney in which the former was on the back foot. Though the author never loses an opportunity to present events in his humorous style, the book describes the powers and faults of both the presidential candidates.

Republicans are given extensive coverage in the book but in tandem with the technological advances and internet revolution, new techniques and technologies have been used from the side of Obama. Romney was over-confident, he relied on statistics and data and he took his victory for granted. He was enamored about his sterling performance in the first debate with Obama in Denver.
