Building a Nest for Success: LeaderMember Exchange Theory. In the leader – member exchange theory, hierarchy is well defined between the leader and the subordinate, and both operate at different hierarchies. On the other hand, the social network theory does not emphasize on hierarchy, rather the persons and elements within the prescribed social network seem to be working at the same level.To integrate both the leadership theories, it is essential to focus on the common elements that both the theories focus on, relationship. Both the theories emphasize on the significance of good relationship between the leader and subordinates. Within the healthcare paradigms, the rapid changes have created the need for abilities to analyze and use given data effectively.

The demand for preparation of health information management (HIM) has increasingly necessitated the need for other capable employees that can comfortably carry out such functions. The leaders – member exchange theory as well as the social network theories are among the potential means of improving leadership quality and capabilities within the public health sector (Yang et al. This would allow for performance of certain responsibilities by other members of the health institution even in the absence of the leader.Within the health institutions, leaders are often entrusted with certain duties most of which cannot be performed by any other person in their absence. For instance, health information management is often done by professionals, and in the absence of such, the analysis of the health information may not be effectively done (Davies, Wong & Laschinger, 2011).
