According to Tsui & Lai (2009), the HR profession in the modern world has been argued to have specific functions on the impact of multiple generations in the work place, impact of globalization, impact of technology, and the impact of multiple generations in the workplace It is worth noting that most organizations use two or three of the four functions. This is because both similarities and differences are crucial in organizations, with the most important being the maximization of similarities to facilitate the achievement of mission in organizations. In this regard, it is crucial that organizations take more caution on the number of employees they require and further come up with strategies that are aimed at attracting and retaining them regardless of their generation status.

For instance, the impact of technology has been utilized by a higher percentage of modern organizations.In relation to this, in the Up in the air movie, a new character by the name Keener is an individual who is eager to change the world, by arguing that firing is not an emotional producer but her plan is aimed at reducing turnover, increasing the production level of employees and attain the expectations of the organization. In fact, Keener introduces the use of video conferencing and argues that is saves time and cost for her company. Conversely, Bingham is pessimistic of the reaction of Keener and the consequences thereof, although she is able to argue out her case on the first round.Apparently, the movie Up in the air has been argued as one that tends to portray the reality on the ground in the HR profession. Nevertheless, some HR professionals have argued that it has incorporated some myths and misconceptions that are misleading in the entire profession. Basically, the myths articulate that companies hire transition consultants that are expected to fire employees, HR professionals perform best when they are emotionally isolated from the people they are managing, the fired employees are argued to receive pocket folder that has impractical information on their cases, the fired employees are usually overwhelmed with talks that suggest that they had an opportunity to utilize their positions while at work but choose to ignore it, and the perception that the duties of transition consultant come to an end when they fire employees.In contrast, HR professionals have deputed such claims and have instead argued that the profession is.
