These images could be found in perfect symmetry where the two figures of ladies standing at the center could be interpreted as mirroring the two images of the merchants who were in kneeling position. Likewise, the central figure of another lady exactly mirrors the image of Achilles at the right side of the frame. The colors of the clothes are also symmetrical: the use of red and yellow for the central figure mirrored by Achilles; the blue and tan clothes of one merchant which is exactly symmetrical to one of the ladies’ clothes; and the other merchant’s pink shirt was likewise balanced to the pink blouse of the lady in front of him. The background elements (trees and skies) effectively provided balance and elegance to the overall painting.Another work of Bernini that effectively exemplifies baroque art is “Apollo and Daphe” (Galleria Borghese) which also exemplifies the basic features and characteristics of baroque through the movements of the figures; as well as the evident depiction of emotions as shown from the faces of the subjects.
