Trade unions play an increasing role in re-training workers and maintaining benefits, such as pensions, for older workers (Camdessus, 1996). Contemporary trade unions must embrace the reality of global trade and ensure that their actions are beneficial to all nations they impact, ensuring, if not equal treatment, at minimum equal consideration of different nations. In considering the future of international trade, ecological sustainability is paramount to ensuring stable global trade arrangements as well as the health and well-being of workers within partner nations. Because ecological sustainability impacts not just businesses longevity, but also the quality of living of workers, trade unions should be at the forefront of the battle to improve ecological consideration, particularly in developing nations which may have no policies, or poor ones, in place to help regulate ecological considerations. Additionally, industries that impact the worlds oceans and atmosphere have long lasting effects that affect many nations globally, and may effect the quality of workers’ lives in many various locations (Camdessus, 1996). As recognition of these occurrences increase, labor unions should find increasing incentive for global cooperation.Trade union rights go hand in hand with the ideal of democracy itself, as trade unions ensure adequate and fair representation of the working class (Camdessus, 1996). Many developing counties resist unionization, as the union is perceived as apolitical entity that may oppose political mandates. In many counties, such as China, Indonesia. Trade Unions Should Care About Equality, Ecological Sustainability, and Democracy and Collaborate with Unions in Other Countries.
