Leadership Analysis of Warren Buffet. The workers under Buffet were so much appealed to by the participatory leadership style in which their leader would be ‘the first man on the ground…and the last to leave’ (Schyns, et al. The fact that he led by example is an inspiration in itself that jointly compacted his team into one as they aimed at achieving organisational targets. As conceptualised in the contingency theory of leadership, Buffet leadership is based on working on the situation at hand and handling each problem based on how it has transpired. This philosophy has assisted him to understand the myriad of situational factors in management thereby leading him to make wise decisions (Northouse, 2010:100).Pragmatically, Buffet’s efficiency and effectiveness in leadership within the organisation he led is relatively easy to measure.

The efficiency of his styles can be seen in the enabling working environment in which employees operate. Evidentially, there is a good working relationship between the employees and the management; an indication that democratic leadership style is working efficiently (Buffet and Clark, 2009:122). The near perfect coordination between the different units in his organisation further shows the efficacy of his leadership style. The transformational effect that Buffet has brought in the organisation is a manifestation of his leadership skills. Transformation theory asserts that the effectiveness of the leader’s strategy is seen in the outcome they bring to the company, as demonstrated by Buffet.While I initially thought leadership is the same as management in which coercion and power is exercised, Buffet has demystified this by proving that leadership works best when desirable strategies are applied; strategies that emphasise amicability rather that coercion (Schroeder, 2008:88). It is crystal clear that leadership requires trust building, integrity, interaction, good communication and support among others as these are some of the reasons why Buffet succeeded in driving the organisation to its great heights. Autocratic leadership style in most cases breeds rebellion, resentment and mistrust, a fact that Buffet mastered right from the start making him deploy democratic style of leadership which is more participative.Leadership as shown by Buffet is not all about force or power.
