Suppliers are required by Apple to adhere to labor laws and ethical standards when it comes to hiring and treatment of workers. The company is committed to seeing an end to unethical hiring practices for instance. It engages with all its business teams as well as suppliers across the entire supply chain so as to implement fair practices of hiring. On hours of work, for instance, the company has set a standard of 60 hours per week except in extreme events, at least a day of rest in seven days and any overtime should be strictly on a voluntary basis. There is also the Underage Labor Remediation Program requiring all suppliers found employing persons who are below the legal employment ages to fund their safe return home, finance their education, pay their wages and offer them jobs on attainment of legal age. The goal of initiating and implementing such measures is to ensure the company not only provides employment and cares for the environment but also respects human rights.
