The parents should talk to their children even if they are miles away from their college and they should call upon them frequently so that they do not get messed up with the environment that they are given in the college. It can be thus said that the relationships can only be affected between a child and parent if the proper circumstances are allowed to dwell. Lubrano on the other hand does not mention these circumstances which can lead to the problems in relationships (Faidley 2007).When a child leaves for college his parents have to suffer from many problems because of the pure relationship that they possess. The parents often feel void because they don’t see their child around and cannot keep a surveillance on the activities of their child. The parents feel left out as the children do not interact with them just like they used to when they were in high school. Lubrano puts an irrational view of the problems that are faced by the parents and children. He gives an example of himself where he was selected in an elite college. It was from here that the relationship between him and his parents began to deteriorate. But the problems with parents and him are not emphasized in the essay. It is seen that his parents did not struggle to maintain the relationship between them. It can be said that it is the duty of both the parents and children to make sure that their relationship is not being affected in anyway. Parents should guide their children on such occasion where their children are stressed out about certain things. Discussion by parents is necessary for them to revive the conversations between the parents and the children. The needs of the children should also be met by the parents so that they children do not feel agitated or left out after leaving their homes. The children should be allowed to speak for themselves and they should be given a certain amount of privacy unlike the days of high school. All these factors are not mentioned by Lubrano which clearly can help in maintaining the relationships of parents and children. Thus the problems of parents and children should be looked upon by both the parties to make sure that the relationship does not wither with time (Shatkin 2008).Lubrano in his essay only emphasizes on the fact that college helps the children to reach a higher status than their parents. At one instance he states that “The strange thing about
