She shows her anger at the mindset of people. She wants women to be treated fairly in the society. She tries to educate people that women are also intelligent and talented and can perform hard duties of life perfectly. She acknowledges men’s role in the society and claims that women can also play a productive role. Bradstreet states in her poem, “Men can do best, and Women know it well. Preeminence in all and each is yours; Yet grant some small acknowledgement of ours” (40-42). Bradstreet claims that women and men are equally responsible for running their families. Although men play an active role, but women also have the potential to see things well. In her poem, she wants to reveal the hard reality of Puritan life. She wants people to acknowledge the powers of women in order to let women participate actively in the society. As compared to The Prologue, in this poem Bradstreet keeps her focus towards her husband whom she loves a lot. Some of the main stylistic features in this poem include the use of rhyme scheme, phrase repetition, iambic pentameters, and metaphors. In this poem, Bradstreet expresses her extreme love for her husband. She believes that her relationship with her husband is the most loving and strong relationship in the world. She praises her husband and believes that her husband is the most loving husband that any woman can ever have. All through the poem, Bradstreet shows her emotions, feelings, and passion to love her husband. She gives more value to the presence of love between a husband and a wife than the whole mines of gold. Bradstreet states in her poem, “I prize thy love more than whole Mines of gold, Or all the riches that the East doth hold” (5-6). In the poem, she says that she is not able to repay the love to her husband no matter how much she tries to do so. She believes that she is the happiest wife on the earth and wants to live her whole life with her loving husband. This poem demonstrates the true feelings of love, which a Puritan wife has for her husband.Summing it up, The Prologue and To My Dear and Loving Husband are two of the most influencing poems of Anne Bradstreet. The author has used two different styles and approaches to write these poems. The Prologue is a poem, which demonstrates the elements of cultural conventions and public duty. On the other hand, To My Dear and Loving Husband shows the love that a Puritan woman has for her husband.
