I the beginning news arrive that Louise’s husband is dead “…had been in the newspaper office when intelligence of the railroad disaster was received, wth Brently Mallards name leading the list of ‘killed’. ”he news is so serious that Louise receive it with much sober. Se morns her self out in the room. Wen the storm of grief had spent itself, se went away to her room alone. Se would have one follow her…” the sad mood recurs in the end of the story as when Louise discovered that it was only a hoax and that her husband was alive she dies of heart failure due to the shock she had experienced.

“…When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease--of the joy that kills. ”this extends the morning that was engulfing the room. Te author utilizes trope as the other a poetic device. Se uses this to compare certain events with a similar life occurrence. H this to ensure there is no repetition in his way of narrating and avoid the recurrence of boring words.

a powerless as her two white slender hands…” this explains her state and the way the oncoming desire was strong fro her to resist. Se also uses this device to express emotions, a was the case when Louise opened the door for Josephine. “…Unwittingly like a goddess of Victory…” Chopin uses this to drive the writer’s attention from the much sober mood and introduce a new factor. Te goddess represents more jovial mood, wich was contrast to what the story was expressing.

The device is use so well as it shows transitions of Louise from the initial somber mood to a joyful one and finally to her last earth journey. Te author has a sense of humor this is evident on how she expresses Louise’s state when asked to open the door. “No; se was drinking in a very elixir of life through that open window. ”she goes ahead to express how Louise’s lips where structured, “escaped her parted lips…” The idea of the writer to express a humorous tone is to avoid the reader from sobering and on the other hand break away from the monotony in which the female character was given in the short story.
