Making commercial sex a crime may instill fear among the prostitutes. The carrying of condoms and frequent tests in places where prostitution is illegal may make the female gender worried about their actions; hence, prefer to have unprotected sex. Sex workers in states where prostitution is illegal do not enjoy employment rights. The rights may include safety, health benefits, protection against unlawful discrimination, and minimum wage among others. After legalization, the prostitutes will have to enjoy the work benefits that may also enhance their work morals leading to increased payments and government taxes.

A safe work environment will prevent cases of murder where clients prefer torturing and killing their mates rather than paying them for their services. The practice has been described as voluntary where individuals work at their will (Nytimes. There are differences in individual perceptions of prostitution leading to prostitutes that choose to engage in commercial sex rather than working in offices. Legalization of the act will reduce the presence of ‘pimps that control the industry and take advantage of the women. Importantly, only adults are supposed to be involved in prostitution; hence, nobody is necessarily harmed leading to a victimless crime. Despite the claim by critics that prostitution contributed to human trafficking, it could also prevent human trafficking (Aghatise).

This is because legalized prostitution will ensure the registration of brothels and prostitutes that require matching a state’s laws. It will reduce the number of underage girls being trafficked to serve in illegal prostitution. The legalization of prostitution will create a mutual relationship between the prostitutes and the law enforcers (Aghatise). As a result, the affiliation will be used to gather more information on the human trafficking cases that are linked to the two practices.

States that have legalized prostitution have realized a decline in the number of human trafficking cases. The government will have a larger economic base due to the increased funds from taxes on prostitution practices (Jeffreys 45). Subsequently, the funds will be channeled to other projects such as improving health care and other infrastructure. The funds will also be used in controlling prostitution due to fines imposed by different policies.
