In Britain for example, the composition of many households has dramatically changed over the last forty years, declining from an average of 2.9 people in 1971 to 2.4 in 2005 (Carter, Jordan, & Watson 2008, p. These changes in household structures are a clear indication of the changing traditions in which individuals are living. Household structures may be constituted in terms of marriage, priorities and responsibilities just to mention a few. However, individual priorities can never remain the same over a lifetime; this is one reason why many marriages fail. This is a reflection of the changes in attitudes vis-à-vis family life, gender relations and relationships in the British welfare system. These changes have had major implications to the society, homes and have affected the sense of security in individuals.

Social events have a tendency of affecting self-identity, because there is an existing connection between the lifestyle of an individual and their understanding of who they really are. It is also clear that many people follow specific patterns, so as to realize their full potential in times of change, hence developing habits that create feelings of security in the social world. Different families have different routines that they partake in their daily activities of social development.

The continuity and order necessary for the development of a sense of security, relates to the level as well as significance of the individual concerned. As outlined, people have different explanations on what home is, and this has varied over time in different historical as well as cultural circumstances. The early experience in human development provides the acquisition of trust developed from early life connections, through the establishment of habit and routine.

These experiences play an essential role in feelings of transcendental security in later life. The social world is organized by the habits that make life normal and predictable. A healthy individual’s life is characterized by negative features such as fears, inconsistent feelings, uncertainties, dissatisfactions, along with other positive features. Health therefore has a relationship with living, inner wealth, as well as with the ability to have cultural experience. Neither are social circumstances separate from personal life nor are they external, because there is much anxiety and dangers in addition to opportunities.
