This study can be backed up by the growing incidence of unhealthy lifestyle practices among these people. With the conduct of this research investigation, basically, the lifestyle behaviors of the younger adult population of the United Kingdom can be understood. Such practices of unhealthy lifestyle must be taken into consideration because it can lead to more serious problems which are detrimental to health as people grow older. Understanding them can possibly give solutions to how a healthy lifestyle can be promoted in this segment of the population. In this study, a qualitative approach is employed.

Lincoln (1995: 280) suggested that qualitative research usually refers to the collection and analysis of materials in which the aim of gathering such data is to uncover the meaning and understand the experience. This approach is applied in this research study for the reason that this is based on a position that endeavors to interpret, understand, as well as explain, the lifestyle behaviors of the young adult population of United Kingdom. Moreover, through the use of qualitative paradigm, this research can yield rich information that can account for the lifestyle behaviors of the young adult population of the United Kingdom. Basically, the reason for selecting the qualitative over the quantitative approach is due to time consideration.

A qualitative approach is easier to employ given the short period of time to conduct this study. Despite the limitations of making generalizations in the qualitative approach, multiple qualitative methods are used to complement each other method’ s limitation. This research investigation is two-phased research which both use qualitative methods. The first data-gathering technique is the interview method while the other is a document review method. As a data-gathering technique, the interview method is chosen based on some ethical consideration.

Given the time constraint, the interview method is the most suitable technique to use. By means of lifestyle, the topic does not involve eating habits alone but the way of life in general.
