It is also important to mention why I used the term ‘ his’ . Actually lots of researchers and studies, after careful clinical analysis and evaluation of transgender individuals show that most of them are boys. Gender identity disorder usually identifies when a child starts believing that he is opposite and conflicting of his biologic sex. Development of gender identity is not a short process. It is a time consuming long-term process that deals and involves several other processes. Various biological factors interact that are combined with social and cognitive processes occur over time.

So, a structure develops that depends on different other factors. Remember, social factors always play a great role in the development of gender identity. These factors have greater influence that cannot be overlooked. Medically speaking, we can see that until the second month of pregnancy or prenatal period, there is no difference between physical features of the female and male fetus. However, as development occurs and progresses during pregnancy, various other factors start influencing and playing their part. At that time these influences also increase the differences between genders. It is also important to understand that gender development process is not necessarily to occur at sensitive or specific periods.

However, the process begins at the prenatal period with the development of sex-determining chromosomes. The process further enhances with the growth of fetus gonad and the influence of various hormones on a fetus. At the time of birth, usually, all newborn babies are labeled as boy or girl depending on the appearance of their external genitals. So, they are further treated according to their sex. A child further starts developing his or her self and image accordingly.

After the little child is labeled as boy or girl, he/ she further develops his language and termed him/ her as a boy or a girl. We can see that this involves the very early expression of sex or gender identity. Mostly, all the societies partition the roles of males and females depending upon gender.
