Political integration pressurizes the government to follow global environmental plans. Additionally, the increase in information and technology has an undesirable impact on resource usage and pollution levels. Some other reasons of environmental problems are inadequate pricing policies for the resources of the environment and organizations not incorporating the pollution cost in their pricing (Krawack 1993). Authors such as Ken Whitelaw (1997) and Andrew Gouldson (1993) have tried to define the term environment management and a few other notable authors are mentioned here also. Environmental management can be termed as a method by which corporations performing in a planned way to evaluate their actions to make certain that they are operating in an environmentally legal manner (Sullivan and Wyndham 2001).

Environmental managers understand the effect of their actions on the environment, consequently planning out suitable actions so as to decrease the effect of their actions which are destructive for the environment. Automobile companies need to be aware of the importance of the environment and try to have environment-friendly production systems. Sullivan and Wyndham 2001, a quality management system (QMS) is necessary to control the environmental management activities.

Phillips(2000) described QMS as being the system that takes into consideration the organizational structure, dealings, practices and resources required to put into practice quality management. Once these factors are considered collectively, QMS evaluates how the organization operates, and how environmental quality is dealt with. Quality Management Systems do not suggest the technological or marketable changes of a commodity but ascertains controls that help in the constant accomplishment of quality norms. To control the environmental management practices and in order to have a proper quality management system in place, an environmental management system (EMS) is required.
