The issue of hurting can be seen as a cycle like a man-woman relationship in which the woman falls the victim of suffering from a previous relationship and makes a choice to commit herself again in another relationship without first healing completely emotionally. Such a woman will hurt her partner with her behavior or in situations where she remembers part of her ugly past. The Strengths of "Hurt People" The books approach to healing can be viewed as being simple but powerful. It offers a great deal of space for addressing behaviors that are seen as being unhealthy with incredible amount of empathy (Wilson, 2001).

While Sandra leaves no excuse for adult’s responsibility in their actions, choices and behavior, she explains as well as acknowledges the effect that influence has beyond the control of an individual while developing patterns of maladaptive behavioral patterns. Wilson is appreciated for placing considerably equal amounts of weight with regards to the past, future and present and how the three influence how the temporal system interacts especially the family. As a person looks at the deep wounds within his or her soul and moves forward to a greater sense of psychological and spiritual health, the foundation is built for functioning that are healthier among the many temporal systems.

Though the approach of the book can be looked at as being simple, it has an effective multitasking approach that moves a person to a better sense of health. The book leaves room for addressing and understanding human behavior looking at it from a psychological perspective as well as the spiritual and theological perspective. By reading this book the hurt develop the desired sense of self, the sense of need as well as a healing relationship as it takes an individual through a journey traversing through their painful memories and look at the understanding of God like a child and others together with consistently coming up with new choices (Wilson, 2001).

Weaknesses The approach employed by Wilson in her book can also be seen as being too effective that it is almost impossible to single out any glaring weaknesses. This approach is one that blends uniquely with tender hearted empathy as well as pain that is necessary for psychological surgery (Wilson, 2001).

The book is a call to challenge childish defense and have the truth declared. It goes further than just acknowledging the role the Holy Spirit plays in the healing process as offers a complete reliance on the role of the Holy Spirit (Wilson, 2001).
