Overfishing is a global issue and countering the issue has become a major concern for policy makers as well as other public and private groups. Various regulatory as well as educational solutions have been applied by different nations to counter the issue. For example: in the region of United States the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act was enacted during the period of 1976 to counter the issue of overfishing (Nmfs. Under this act the Fishery Management organizations have the responsibility of creating plans for the management of stock of fishes.

These plans comprise of specific quotas that set a limit on the amount of particular fishes that can be harvested by individuals as well as groups. Due to this Act, the NOAA FISHERIES reported that during the period of 2013 the fisheries regulatory body was responsible to manage stocks of fishes and due to their proper management seven of the fish stocks that fell in the category of overfishing and four of the fish stocks that fell in the category of overfished had been removed from these categories as compared to the period of 2000 [Accessed 2
